Time for a new epic scene, this one inspired by Alexander Bubnov's "Morning on the Kulikovo Field" except this time's a sunset and I've tried to create a fantasy scene that goes very well with this song from the Age of Conan game.
For those who wonder about the name, Akhet in ancient Egyptian is the place where the sun rises and sets, often translated as "horizon" or "mountain of light".
This specific cutscene from Thief II inspired me to create this painting of Garrett walking in the creepy woods outside of The City where the Pagan's live, a human faction aligned with the forces of nature and chaos in the Thief world.
I usually close a year with a Thief related artwork, but this time it will mark the beginning of a new year, in which I hope I'll post more and be more productive.
The South Quarter is a densely populated district of The City, the main setting in Thief's fictional game world. The district has its own song, composed by Eric Brosius and yes, Garrett is also somewhere in there at work, see if you can spot him!
I tried a couple of traditional paintings with this theme but I need more practice there, I'm more confident with the digital medium.
I found some time to get back to the traditional medium, trying to remember what was forgotten. I used watercolors, acrylics and ink for this one.
In my opinion Homeworld is one of the best games ever made, besides the revolutionary gameplay it also featured a distinct art direction that blended perfectly with the game universe. Here's my tribute to this awesome game, I really hope that Relic will create Homeworld 3 sometime in the future. Oh, the soundtrack is mindblowing too, yet here's something for the mood from Vangelis.
